How it works
Each letter and digit is swapped for a matching small character from the Unicode standard. The result is ordinary text, not a font size, so it stays small when you paste it. Small caps draw capital shapes at the height of lowercase letters. Superscript raises letters and digits, and subscript lowers them. Digits and the signs + − = ( ) work in both. Letters Unicode has no small form for are left as they are: x in small caps, q in superscript, and most letters in subscript, which has only 17.
Example: “Hello 123” becomes ʜᴇʟʟᴏ 123 in small caps, ᴴᵉˡˡᵒ ¹²³ in superscript, ₕₑₗₗₒ ₁₂₃ in subscript.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between small caps, superscript and subscript?
Small caps are capital-shaped letters at lowercase height. Superscript letters sit high, like the 2 in x², and subscript letters sit low, like the 1 in a₁. All three are Unicode characters, so you can paste them into almost any app.
Why are some letters not small?
Unicode does not have every letter in every small style. Subscript has only a, e, h, i, j, k, l, m, n, o, p, r, s, t, u, v and x. Superscript has no q here, because almost no font draws it, and uses the lowercase form for capital S, X, Y and Z. Small caps has no x. Those letters stay normal size.
Can I write a formula like H₂O or x² with it?
Yes for exponents and indices such as x² or a₁. For a chemical formula, convert only the digit: type 2 in the box, copy it from the subscript line and paste it between the plain letters H and O.
Why does small text look different in different apps?
Apps draw these characters with their own fonts, so size and spacing vary and a missing glyph can show as an empty box. Check the result in the app where you will use it.
Does small text work in usernames?
Usually not. Most apps allow only plain letters and numbers in usernames. Use it in names, bios, captions and comments.
